Unisex Piercings

     Select the piercing of interest: Ear Lobe, Ear Cartilage, Tragus, Nostril, Septum, Eyebrow, Tongue, Lip, Hand Web, Navel, and Cheek / Labret.

Ear Lobe

     The ear lobe is the most common and accepted piercing done today.  There is no exact location requirement for this piercing.  Placement of single or multiple piercings are evenly spaced and centered according to the taste of each individual.

     Suggested Jewelry: Captive Bead Ring, Captive Coil, Captive Genuine Stone Ring, Circular Barbell.

     Suggested Size: 20, 18, 16, and 14 gauge, 5/16" to 5/8".

     Healing Time: 4 - 6 weeks.

Ear Cartilage

     The endless variety of' placement makes the ear cartilage a popular piercing location.  Placement can be at the top of the ear, at the bottom of the ear, next to the ear lobe or any place in between.

     Suggested Jewelry: Same as for earlobes except the piercing hole must be made a gauge larger than the jewelry to allow for healing.

     Suggested Size: 20, 18, 16, and 14 gauge, 5/16" to 5/8".

     Healing Time: 9 - 12 months.

Tragus

     The Tragus is the prominence in front of the opening of the ear canal.  Piercing placement should be in the natural fold where the Tragus attaches to the side of the face.

     Suggested Jewelry: Captive Bead Ring, Captive Coil, Captive Genuine Stone Ring, Circular Barbell.

     Jewelry Size: 20, 18 and 16 gauge, 5/16" to 5/8".

     Healing Time: 6 - 12 months.

Nostril

     Nostril piercings have been common in numerous cultures.  Placement is largely the personal taste of each individual.  Usually the best location is in the crease formed where the lower edge of the nostril curves upward and forward around the base of the nose.

     Jewelry Size: 20, and 18 gauge, 5/16" to 1/2".

     Healing Time: 6 - 8 weeks.

Septum

     The septum is the membrane behind the central cartilage of the nose.  Septum piercings reach from remote Africa to Indochina and South America.  Original ornaments included feathers, shells and animal teeth.  Piercing location is through the thin tissue between the inner cartilage and the outside edge of the septum.  The piercing should be placed well forward and high towards the tip of the nose.  A proper piercing will allow a ring to hang freely.

     Jewelry Size: 16, 14 and 12 gauge, 3/8" to 5/8".

     Healing Time: 4 - 6 weeks.

Eyebrow

     Eyebrow piercings have gained popularity and are rapidly becoming one of the most requested piercings.  The eyebrow may be pierced anywhere along its length.  The normal piercing is straight up and down or angled slightly to the side.

     Jewelry Size: 18 and 16 gauge, 3/8" to 7/16".
     Healing Time: 6 - 8 weeks.

Tongue

     While little known until recently, tongue piercing is one of the most popular piercings requested.  The piercing is located about an inch from the tip of the tongue along the center line of the tongue in order to miss the two large veins running parallel on the underside.
     Suggested Jewelry: Barbell Stud.  Jewelry Size: 14 gauge, Stud should be 1/4" larger then the thickness of the tongue at the point of piercing.  After healing size to exact thickness of tongue at piercing point.
     Healing Time: 4 - 6 weeks.

Lip

     Lip piercings have been common in many tribal societies around the world.  The piercing is located to individual taste anywhere around the mouth on the top or bottom lip.  Generally the piercing is placed beyond the lip line.      Suggested Jewelry: Captive Bead Ring, Captive Coil, Captive Genuine Stone Ring, Barbell Stud.      Jewelry Size: 18 and 16 gauge, 3/8" to I/2".      Healing Time: 6 - 8 weeks.

Hand Web

     Everyday manual labor and ease of infection make hand web piercings difficult to heal and therefore something of a rarity.  Use restrictions and a rigorous cleaning routine are required for a successful piercing.  The usual location is the flesh between the thumb and index finger.      Suggested Jewelry: Captive Bead Ring, Captive Coil, Captive Genuine Stone Ring, Barbell Stud.      Jewelry Size: 14 gauge, 5/8" to 3/4" while piercing heals, 1/2" afterwards.      Healing Time: 6 - 12 months.

Navel

     Navel piercings were regularly done by ancient Egyptian royalty.  They are the most popular piercing being done today.  Navel piercings are slow to heal.  A redness, which is not a sign of infection, can persist for months.  Only pronounced "Innies" should be pierced.  "Outies" are not suitable for piercing.  The placement is located 3/8" above the upper edge of the navel.  The ring should hang vertically and seem to disappear into the navel opening.  Unless placed through sufficient tissue, this piercing is slightly more prone to rejection than other piercings.

     Healing Time: 9 - 12 months.

Cheek / Labret

     Cheek piercings like lip piercings have been common among many tribal societies around the world.  The piercing can be located anywhere on the cheek, opposite the mouth cavity.  Placement is mostly a matter of personal taste and preference.

     Suggested Jewelry: Labret Stud.

     Jewelry Size: 14 gauge, 5/16" to 1/2".

     Healing Time: 6 - 8 weeks.
